This is the story of a vineyard estate, in Salnés Valley, in Galicia: Ouso da Torre, with its century-old vineyards, which is a part of the Cambados history, Albariño’s capital. This vineyard was a maincharacter and witness of the Rías Baixas Origin Appellation borning. As always, in 2023 its grapes were harvested by hand, but this time, in addition, we use digital traceability, strain by strain, satellite control during transport and digital control on the elaboration process in the winery. As an exclusive preview, we can taste a sample of the future 2000 numbered bottles of this albariño Terra de Asorei 2023 Century-old vines, which will be ready by October 2025. An albariño with soul.

White wine is consumed more and is more popular than in a few years. It has a much greater role in the market. Red wines are consumed less and those that are successful are lighter, with less alcohol content and less intensity. What has caused this change in trend? Does this represent a certain revolution in white wine or are we simply in a recurring cyclical moment? Is it a fashion or does it respond to a deeper trend?

Coinciding with the CENTENARY celebrations of the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin in 2025, this tasting will take a tour of the historic region, showcasing wines from CENTENARY VINEYARDS and OLD VINEYARDS over 50 years old from the DOCa Rioja. The wines to be tasted also take a tour of the three areas of the Denomination (Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa, Rioja Oriental) and their very diverse styles.

A round table featuring three of the most prominent wineries in the preservation of pre-phylloxera vineyards. During the event, the valuable legacy of these century-old vineyards will be highlighted, and some of the authentic enological gems born from them will be tasted. The speakers will share their experiences with traditional viticulture and how these vines, which have stood the test of time, continue to produce wines of exceptional quality and deep historical roots. A unique opportunity to discover wines that carry the most authentic history in every glass.

A defender of organic farming and the conservation of old vineyards, the LUIS CAÑAS FAMILY is engaged in a varietal recovery project. The three wineries they own are involved in this project, with more than 40 varieties recovered. Coordinated by Rubén Jimenez, Director of Viticulture, this rescue operation received the 'BEST GROWER' mention by TIM ATKIN. He is accompanied by Jon Cañas, who will share with attendees the purpose of his family: to leave future generations a diverse viticultural heritage and a preserved natural environment. They will present the Benedicto variety, Palo Alto, as well as other wines from century-old vineyards.

Alba and Sofia Atienza, from Lacrima Terrae, have built a community of 240,000 wine enthusiasts. They will discuss the challenges faced by consumers in the wine world, outline the key strategies for communicating wine in a way that connects and engages consumers with your brand, and illustrate these principles through a practical case study.

Family Torres, through their passion for viticulture, has contributed to preserving old vineyards in the territories where they are present, both in Spain and in Chile, giving them a voice through wines that speak of history, culture, and heritage. For this tasting, Mireia Torres and sommelier Sergi Castro have selected 5 expressions of old vines from vineyards they own of different varieties and territories, which are the essence of some of the great wines of this century-old wine family.

Increasingly extreme weather events, rising temperatures, drought, etc, affect vineyards and especially the most delicate and fragile plants. Old vines are the least productive but they are the most prized and valuable for wineries. But how does climate change affect them? Are they more vulnerable to extreme weather events? What techniques and care are most appropriate to face the challenge of climate change?

Presentation of the first Spanish dry wine at 9% vol., non-dealcoholized, endorsed by a D.O. (D.O. TERRA ALTA). The wine is a 100% Parellada, which, harvested at its optimum point of ripeness, offers its maximum expression as a fresh, light and dynamic wine. The fact that this grape variety has a low sugar content makes it possible to have a wine with a low alcohol content without the need to dealcoholize, maintaining all the qualities of a still wine.

Consumers are increasingly drinking wine by the glass rather than whole bottles. This is due to health and economic factors, but also to the search for quality over quantity. How can a professional deal with this, in order to achieve the client's objective by offering the highest quality of service and maximising costs?

We explore a growing trend: the use of cork stoppers in sparkling wine bottling.

A recent research project driven by the wineries Gramona and Recaredo, along with cork manufacturers Francisco Oller and TESA, and supported by the Catalan Cork Institute Foundation, the Catalan Institute of Vine and Wine, and the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology, has demonstrated that sparkling wines undergoing secondary fermentation with cork achieve a distinctive physical and sensory profile and are also more highly valued by consumers.

We will see the first results of the project by tasting 4 sparkling wines.

CEOs and executives of large wineries face an increasingly challenging reality: a structural decline in demand, climate change, cost pressures, and tougher competition.

In this uncertain context, investing in data and analytics has become an imperative for industry leaders to optimize their business strategies and ensure the long-term survival of their companies.

Industries such as aviation, hospitality, and retail joined the data revolution more than 50 years ago.

Today, this transformation has finally reached the wine industry, bringing unprecedented opportunities and a renewed wave of optimism.

Only 15 years ago, social media had not become popular and wine recommendations were made through the specialized press, professional guides and blind tasting contests. They were few and had an extreme influence. A good score could be decisive for a winery and was very important for positioning itself in the market. Now there are more specialized media, more contests and more rankings that coexist with prescribers with their own channels on social networks. What effect does the atomization of the prescription have on the consumer? And on the wineries? Is it still decisive to appear in guides, win contests, etc?

The wine industry holds the belief that old vines produce higher quality wines, with low yields but capable of producing grapes full of character and expression of the terroir. However, we wonder if this is merely a perception based on the romanticism of tradition. During the presentation, a blind tasting will take place to explore this question. Through sensory analysis, various factors will be evaluated: Are these wines truly of greater aromatic complexity, structure, or depth than those from younger vines? Or, on the contrary, could the differences be subtle, even imperceptible? What is truth, and what is myth?

Digital labeling in the wine sector represents a unique opportunity to strengthen consumer trust and ensure regulatory compliance. In this presentation, AECOC discusses the benefits of implementing QR codes and the impact of key regulations such as Regulation (EU) 2021/2117 on the wine sector.

What is the current situation of the wine sector? What challenges has it been successfully facing and what is still a long way to go? Over the last 12 years, Cajamar has published four monographic books on the wine sector, all of which have won awards in their respective categories from the International Wine Organisation (OIV). This structural, in-depth knowledge is complemented by the current information on the wine market that Cajamar produces on Plataforma Tierra. In this activity we will summarise the content of all this work, considering the present and future of the sector.

Last year, the ‘Magnificent 7’ was too small for us to review the excellence of the wines from the Spanish designations of origin that are the protagonists of this great tasting in the Príncipe room of the Fira de Barcelona exhibition centre in Montjuic. The 7 became 10 with the DO Ribera del Duero. In this fifth edition of the Barcelona Wine Week, 10 wonderful wines have been selected, most of them white, but also a red and even a sparkling wine, from a DO Rías Baixas that continues to grow with wines that constantly gain more prestige driven by the pull that Spanish white wine is experiencing. The journalist and sommelier Ramon Francàs has selected from among fifty wines with an Atlantic soul the ten Magnificents that will star in this unrepeatable journey. The evolution of Rías Baixas wines has been extraordinary since their take-off on the market, which began in the 1980s, and continues unstoppable today.

The climate crisis presents significant challenges for producers and winemakers. In this context, water stands out as perhaps the most crucial resource—not only because plant survival depends on it but also because it's essential throughout the wine production process. This panel will explore water usage and management from a global perspective, highlight the most effective tools, and discuss the various scenarios the industry will need to navigate in the near future.

A dialogue between Designations of Origin, winemakers, international prescriptors and international buyers to talk about the importance of the international reverse missions and international commissions as a great international projection (commercial and positioning) of Spanish wine, delving into what international prescriptors and buyers are looking for and expect from these visits, as well as the continuity after the visit.

We will share the historical knowledge of three renowned winemakers, hailing from different corners of the country, who love and work with very old vines, considered an identity symbol of their wineries, wines, and philosophies. The presentation at Barcelona Wine Week of the Unión de Vinos de Pagos Certificados (UVPC) highlights the importance of pago wines, those made exclusively with grapes grown in a vineyard with unique geographical, edaphic and climatic characteristics. The UVPC promotes the excellence and authenticity of these wines, defending their uniqueness and positioning them as a global benchmark. We will understand what a ''vino de pasto'' is, the return to the past on which the traditional fortified Andalusia that we know today was founded.

Tasting of fortified and sweet wines from appellations present at Vinoble 2026.Fortified, sweet and liqueur wines are typologies and appellations that express like very few others the identity of the wine-growing territories: both their natural conditions and their history, traditions and particular ways of making wine. Wines of noble origins that have withstood globalisation, entrenched in the values of their respective distinct identities. For this reason, they are wines that require an unhurried and unsophisticated approach. Every two years, these wines take centre stage at Vinoble, a unique show in a unique city: Jerez. 

An unprecedented round table and tasting, led and moderated by Master of Wine Fernando Mora, will bring together three internationally recognized winemakers to discuss the various realities surrounding old vine wines. This meeting will address key topics related to oenological value, history, and the challenges of working with ancient vineyards. Participants will share their experiences and viewpoints, providing a comprehensive perspective on the impact of old vines on the quality and authenticity of wines, as well as their relevance in today’s market.

The I International Wine Tourism Forum, organized by the Catalan Tourist Board (ACT) and directed by Lluís Tolosa, a sociologist specialized in wine tourism, will be held next Wednesday, February 5, within the framework of Barcelona Wine Week 2025 (BWW).

In this first edition, the Forum will focus on 'World Reference Projects in Wine Tourism', with five thematic sessions: a first session dedicated to the international perspective of wine tourism, followed by four sessions dedicated to the cases of Bordeaux, Porto, Georgia and China, with the participation of fifteen international speakers.

Launching a wine-making project is not easy, it has a very high economic cost and high risks. To minimize these risks, new models are emerging to create new wineries. There are collective projects that are inspired by old agricultural cooperatives and also winery nurseries, public or private, that offer entrepreneurs the possibility of starting with more controlled risks.

Tim Atkin is not only one of the most renowned Master of Wine in the world, but he is also a fervent wine lover and taster whose opinions, translated into points, have sparked global interest through his famous “reports”. His vast knowledge of wine worldwide and especially Spanish wine, has given maximum credibility to his assessments, making him a reference to follow and believe in. On this occasion, Tim Atkin travels to Barcelona accompanied by Fintan Kerr and Tom Hewson to present his Reports 2025. Catalan Wines and Sparkling Wines Special Report 2025, where we will also taste some of the wines that have captivated them the most.

La Rioja Oriental has been a subregion of Rioja where both wineries and winemakers from other subregions of the DOCa (Denominación de Origen Calificada) have always valued and even purchased grapes, yet it has never been prominently highlighted in communication. Why? In this presentation, we want to proudly raise the flag of Rioja Oriental and showcase its deep-rooted winemaking and cultural heritage, as well as demonstrate its great oenological diversity with two examples of completely different wines.

Discovery of the territory of the Costers del Segre Designation of Origin through two of its great native varieties, Macabeo and Grenache, with a careful selection of the wines presented by sommelier David Seijas.

During the Hotel Wine Fest (January 22 - February 5), the chefs of 8 hotels in Barcelona will create tapas and dishes inspired by the culinary traditions of 8 Denominations of Origin, paired with their wines. A professional jury will award the “Maridaje Alimentos de España” Award to the most outstanding proposal. Additionally, the hotel with the highest public rating will receive the Best Experience Award.
